At first glance, it’s clear where the wind is blowing from. The baseline is based on the classics, but everything is a little “extra”. The designers at Vans took an iconic model and applied what was called “puffy tech” in the 90s.
- Puffy tongue and collar:Â this is the most distinctive element. The tongue is heavily padded, which not only looks great with loose pants, but also adds comfort and protection to the instep.
- 3D Sidestripe. On the Vans Knu Skool, it’s a protruding, 3D molded feature that literally pops out of the side of the shoe. It gives the sneaker depth and a more aggressive look.
- Oversized laces. Forget thin laces, here you’re playing with wide “fat laces” that perfectly complement the overall volume.
- Heel loop:Â A detail you won’t find on classic Old Skools, but it makes sense here – it makes it easier to slip on, which is handy for a shoe this cushioned.

Upper
Suede:Â Leather with a characteristic brushed finish and a soft, velvety texture. Unlike smooth leather, it is produced from the inside of the leather, which gives the material an unmistakable softness and suppleness. The main advantages of suede footwear include high breathability and the ability to adapt quickly to the anatomical shape of the foot, making the shoes comfortable from the first wear. Suede stands out for its depth of colour and gives the shoes a premium look. In order for the material to retain its properties and beauty, regular impregnation is recommended to ensure protection against moisture and dirt.
Sole
Wafer:Â A revolutionary type of sole characterised by its square grid pattern that resembles the texture of a waffle. This design was originally conceived to create a lightweight sole that would provide excellent traction on different types of surfaces without the need for heavy metal spikes. The protruding rubber lugs act as independent cushioning elements that absorb shock on impact and provide maximum grip on rebound.
